OUR impact

18 Months in Northwest Arkansas: Impact by the Numbers

  • "For me, to be involved with the community is like an energy drink. That’s what I always enjoyed doing in the community – to find what are the needs, the barriers. If you’re thinking about joining the American Dream Leaders program, just think about helping and listening to other people’s stories. Remember that it’s not about you, it’s about all of us. This is a great opportunity where you can learn from others. Not about what is the difference between you and I? But what makes us the same? What are you going to do to make sure the community gets to the point of reaching their American Dreams? It was a great experience. I really enjoyed hearing stories from other people that were in the same situation as me and sometimes harder than myself. Just hearing their stories makes me get more inspired and try to help more."

  • “I think the primary problem that the Cisneros Center was able to solve was of convening and bringing everyone together. There are a lot of resources here, and a lot of organizations doing good things, but we had a huge problem of communication. You ask a lot of our Latino population and a lot of our immigrant population about what services we have, what events are going on, nobody had really had a sense of all the resources and what was happening out there. I think the Center was able to bring all that together through a resource guide, through working with the Northwest Arkansas Council, by being able to be present at so many community events, working with the schools, working with the business community. Because they were always on the ground, they did a great service as communicators to make sure that everyone in the community knew what was going on and what resources were out there. And I think they did a great job identifying gaps – things that we were missing or things that we could do better. The strategy, the vision, and the ability to bring people together – I think those are the strongest characteristics the Cisneros Center brings to our community .”

  • "The American Dream Fellows are true community leaders. They facilitate change in a way that allows every voice to be heard, valued and integrated. Because of their partnership, our local plant is finding new ways of respecting and caring for our immigrant and migrant employees."
