SPRINGDALE -- A non-profit helping immigrants better integrate into American society visited some Springdale classrooms Monday.
The Cisneros Center for New Americans visited with teachers and families at JO Kelly Middle School. The center is working on ways to effectively integrate new Americans into their communities.
Center President Nicolas Perilla says some of the programs at JO Kelly, like the family literacy program, are among the best he's ever seen.
"Schools are a central part of building an effective ecosystem for immigrant integration but ultimately it takes the entire community, it takes the folks that have been here for a very long time. It takes businesses, it takes the philanthropic sector coming together," Perilla says.
The center is also visiting and studying areas across the country similar to Springdale.
